Writing IELTS dạng Process

Writing dạng Process trong Task 1
không phổ biến như dạng bài Pie chart hoặc Bar chart trong kỳ thi IELTS Academic, và được SIGMA Academy đánh giá là dễ. Tuy nhiên, vì đây không phải là dạng đề phổ biến nên sẽ có khá nhiều bạn sẽ lúng túng, mất phương hướng khi gặp dạng bài này trong phòng thi. Đây là điều rất đáng tiếc!

Vì vậy để có thể ăn chắc điểm cao trong phần writing này, hôm nay, trung tâm Anh ngữ SIGMA sẽ đi sâu phân tích dạng bài process này và đưa ra một số mẹo để các bạn ôn tập nhé!

1 - Giới thiệu - Introduction
Đối với writing dạng Process, đoạn đầu tiên của bài viết là introduction.
Trong introduction, bạn cần paraphrase câu hỏi (hay nói cách khác là viết lại câu hỏi dùng từ vựng và cấu trúc câu của mình). Bạn không nên viết quá 2 câu cho phần này:

Examples:

The diagram explains the way in which steel rods are produced for the furniture industry.
The diagram shows the process of metal rods production for the furniture industry.
2 - Tổng quát - General Overview
A general overview is to summarize what’s going on in the diagram/ process.
Unlike line graphs, pie charts and bar charts, “process” have no general trends or key changes to identify. So, in the overview paragraph you need to write:

how the process begins and ends (quy trình bắt đầu và kết thúc như thế nào)
the number of stages (có bao nhiêu giai đoạn)
If the diagram has loops or repeating stages, or your process is cyclic – write that in your overview too.

Ví dụ:
Overall, the process consists of eleven stages, beginning with the raw material and ending up with the product’s inspection.
Overall, the diagram shows that it is necessary for steel rods to undergo eleven stages. The process is still a complex and lengthy one despite being mostly done by machinery rather than by hand.
Always use the word overall to start your overview. This way you will indicate the examiner that you’re describing general trends (luôn luôn sử dụng từ “Overall” để bắt đầu, điều này giúp giám khảo biết được bạn đang muốn miêu tả xu hướng chung).

3 - Chi tiết - Specific details
After you’ve given the overview, you should write about specific details of your diagram. To do that, you need to describe each stage of your process in detail. Don’t forget that you should provide information in a logical way.

Dùng từ nối – Using connectors:
Process là một loạt các thay đổi xảy ra theo thời gian. Đó là lý do tại sao các từ nối về thời gian (time connectors) là cực kỳ quan trọng khi viết về Process. Hãy sử dụng các từ nối thời gian này để mô tả các tính năng cụ thể của sơ đồ của bạn:

first of all
firstly
to begin
after that
then
next
in the next stage
following this
subsequently
finally.
Dùng các gợi ý – Using additional information:
Process thường sẽ cung cấp cho bạn một số thông tin và gợi ý bổ sung cho hầu hết các giai đoạn của Process. Hãy sử dụng tất cả các thông tin và gợi ý khi mô tả các bước cụ thể của dạng process trong Writing!

Tuy nhiên, đôi khi bạn có thể sẽ thấy rằng có một số giai đoạn thiếu thông tin để mô tả.

Ví dụ, chúng ta chỉ biết rằng giai đoạn thứ ba của process trong hình trên được gọi là tinh lọc – refinement và nó xảy ra trong một cabin nấu chảy – smelting cabin. Nhưng chúng ta không biết chính xác những gì xảy ra trong giai đoạn đó. Trong trường hợp này, bạn có thể sử dụng một động từ như “to undergo” (= to experience).

Ví dụ: bạn có thể viết:

The material undergoes refinement in a smelting cabin.
4 - Bài viết hoàn chỉnh - Full sample
(Introduction)
The diagram shows the process of metal rods production for the furniture industry.

(Overview)
Overall, the diagram shows that it is necessary for steel rods to undergo eleven stages. The process is still a complex and lengthy one despite being mostly done by machinery rather than by hand.

(Body paragraph 1)
First of all, iron ore, yellow ore and carbon are collected to serve as a raw material for steel rods manufacturing. After that, the raw material is melted in a melting slit, where it is heated to a temperature in range of 1300-1500 °C. The melted mass is then transferred to a smelting cabin to undergo refinement. Next, the candescent metal is put in a pouring machine and poured into ingots.

(Body paragraph 2)
In the next stage, the ingots are connected to a cooling reservoir, where the temperature falls to 60-100 °C. Metal goes through special nozzles and cools down, forming strands. Following this, the metal strands proceed to rollers that change their shape. Next, the products are put into a heating machine, where they undergo heat treatment. Subsequently, a measuring automaton completes a surface check of the products. After that, the metal rods are sized by special cutters and get ID stamping. Finally, the products undergo inspection and are ready for use.

5 - Mẹo hay - Tips
Dưới đây là những lời khuyên rất tốt mà bạn cần ghi nhớ đối với dạng bài Process trong writing:

Đôi khi bạn có thể chỉ sử dụng chính từ vựng mà đề đưa ra sơ đồ process, nhưng trong hầu hết trường hợp, hãy cố gắng thay đổi/ biến hóa từ vựng (ví dụ thay danh từ trong đề thành động từ: refinement → refine)
Khi mô tả một quá trình liên quan đến con người (một process do con người tạo ra), hãy chú ý dùng “thể bị động” (passive voice).
Hãy tập trung đưa tất cả dữ liệu trong sơ đồ process vào bài làm của mình.
