you can't speak English well !! why ??

khi viết bài này không phải tôi tự cho là mình đã nói giỏi tiếng Anh, nhưng tôi đã từng là đứa nói tiếng Anh hay đến nổi " no one can understand " thật sự nhiếu bạn nghĩ rằng trong thời gian ngồi trên ghế thì chỉ cần lo học : grammar là đủ hay học thêm vocabulary thì có lẽ bạn đã mắc 1 sai lầm lớn :
1/ càng học lên cao bạn sẽ khó có thì giở để học Tiếng Anh và luyện tiếng Anh (tA); nhất là các bạn lớp 12 và sinh viên, và bạn không có kế họach chu đáo sẽ rất khó hoàn thiện tiếng Anh của mình trong tương lai !!
2/ tiếng Anh phải thực hành nhiều đặc biệt là nghe và nói nên nếu bạn bỏ 3 tháng hay nhiều hơn để học thật chăm chỉ thì chỉ sau cỡ 2tuần hoặc 1 tháng thì dám cá là trình độ của bạn sẽ xuống rất nhiều ( không phải là mất căn bản )
3/ nhưng đó chỉ là kế họach thôi nhưng thực hiện thì, thành thật mà nói sinh viên chúng ta rất ngại giao tiếp ( đa số chứ không phải bạn nào cũng vậy ), rất ít trao dồi khả năng nghe và nói. Bạn có biết rằng nếu nói tôt, chuẩn thì khi nghe bạn đã vựơt được có thể nói là 50% rồi nên mình nghĩ để có thể tự tin khi nói tiếng Anh là bạn hãy cố nói thật nhiều bất cứ ở đâu, vừa tăng khả năng nói mà còn giúp bạn nhớ từ vựng rất hiệu quả !!
4/ nói nhỏ với bạn, các trung tâm dạy AVăn cả nổi tiếng và không nổi tiếng , nói cho cùng là mục đích king doanh thôi, giáo viên nước ngoài chạy sô cũng không phải vừa đâu nhé, thật tế mà nói thì cũng không hiệu quả cho lắm bạn ah !! không phải đóng cả mấy triệu vào thì là OK đâu !! mà là ở bạn, hãy mua sách, CD tự học cũng có thể học giỏi chứ !!
Chính vì lẽ đó mà ngay từ bây giờ bạn hãy đầu tư vào nói và nghe tiếng anh nhé !! Thật sự đó chỉ là bước khởi đấu thôi, chứ để thành cao thủ thì bạn còn phải học rất nhiều như viết eassy, reading,using slang, idom,..... rất nhiều bạn ạ !!
Nhưng lđó là chìa khóa để bạn có thể học giỏi hơn môn này !!

You can 't apply your case in this stituation,because you live in foreign country ,so you have a chance to practice English and speak English with your friends everyday. In VIetNam, student don 't have much opportunities to speak English

yeah, the best way is to practice with native speakers, but we dont really have chances, right. :D

I strongly recommend you not to study in any english centre in VN. They suck! (usually) :P
U should try to travel to pratice if u have money, or join some english camp programs. They're pretty helpful though. Gud luck! ;)

To express a phrase or an idea, most VN people think in Vietnamese context and speak it out in English. They think it's right English. Well, not exactly it is. It's hard for VN people because we have differences in culture and thinking.

For instance, "U should try to travel to pratice if u have money, or join some english camp programs..." (tôi hiểu bạn muốn nói là: "bạn nên thử đi du lịch để thực tập nếu có tiền, hoặc tham gia chương trình trại học tiếng Anh nào đó ..."). You can write shortly like:
You should pursue studying abroad if you can affort it, or join some study group.

so, you are in the wrong topic. this topic subject is about speaking, not reading :D

anyway, in your case, there is only one way for you: reading reading and reading. However, dont try to use dictionary with every new words. Try to understand in the whole sentence :)

The best way to learn English is to first have a firm grip on grammar, then a wide vocabulary.
After that all things come naturally, to make out what is said in English isn't really hard, the difficult part is pronouncing it correctly, but normally you can pronounce adequately 90% of the time, difficult words will be tough to pronounce but at least the native speakers will understand what you mean.
Some difficult words: Further, think, world, beach (very easily mispronounced for bitch), sheet (very easily mispronounced for "****"), kids (very easily mispronounced for kiss), ... so on.

To speak English well you must pracrise speaking it with myself, friends and foreigners ever day (within 30 minutes). You shuoldn't be shy and afraid. Althouht you can speak it the wrong grammar. this doesnt matter. you feel believe on communication.

I agree with Tom...'s opinion. I used to speak English very well in high school. when i learned in university, i had just study English in vocabulary, reading for my major. Now i graduated, but now i need a good English much to apply for scholarship. Everything now is very difficult for me because i want to improve my English as fast as possible. So should everyone learn english in reading, listening, speaking and grammar at the same time!!!!

Not really , reading is a difficult skill . To read well , you need to have reading skills . Skim for the key words or phrases is the first thing u have to know . Can you find what a 2000 word document is about if you just read word by word ? It might takes u hours to do :)

This is my story:
I'm not a good English speaker and I write E badly also, 'cause my vocabulary is such a ****, I actually don't like English so much . I currently lived in a country which English is used as mother language. As a matter of fact, I have a good chance to learn English "step by step into my blood". It really means I've been studying English in passive. I figured out this way is the best serve for me. Why? I studied hard in English in the past by facing with many kind of training books (vocabulary, reading, hearing...) in a small room, non-sense of the world outside. See what I got! Nothing! I couldn't speak English better even at least let them understand what I was talking about. My feeling is boring anyway. I was sometimes like a man in the middle of the night. Until I got a job which they don't pay so much, I truly force myself to study English in inactive:

+Speak English without any sense, immediately, no thinking vietnamese context, culture.
+Spend time to understand E context. For example, I'm going to get my paycheck this afternoon, "tat nhien minh se? ho?i làm sao để tao nhận được tiền lương của tao". My friend were unable to understand me when I asked them "how can I pick up my salary?". Thanks, god! She got it after 15 mins I made her confused :D! She showed me to say a correctly way after that: "how can I pick up my check?"!!!!!! :D. Or "vì giấy trắng A4 của mình hết rồi mình định đi lấy nhưng thấy tren ba`n nó co' mi`nh mới nói"-->"Can I borrow you?" He said "no" but he gave me it. Then, he explained me "you are supposed to say "Can I have one? because it belongs to company, not me anyway. When you said "Can I borrow you", you have to give back it or another one to me after all". He is such a good friend. I bought him a coke right away.Both of them are common context but not all the books covered them!
+Hear carefully what they say and practice. I often pronounced 95% incorrectly as first time. So, my friend sometimes joked at me with words "you are such a great inventor! Our boss will promote you soon". For example, "paper clips", I pronounced "bay bờ k li'p". In fact, I have to pronounce "bay bo*` kli.ps"...

To sum up, English probably is easy for somebody but it's really tough for me even my english is getting better in days. If you really loved E, you have to find to your ways to adopt it. In my experience, the more you speak E, the more you improve yours and don't be shy. "We are learning after each time we are falling out"

Well, I'm just curious about this topic... and I know the reason why somebody cannot speak English so well due to he or she 's afraid of thinking: "Oh my GoD, if I speak broken English, others will laught at my face!!!" ... Forget it... Now... Talk and talk ... anywhere, anytime, with anybody about whatever... You donot need to be afraid of that you can make a mistake of English Grammar (I always do!), but after all, you have to know what your mistake is to not repeat this mistake again and again...

Gosh u guys, like me ... can't speak E well when i was in VN. After i live in USA 3 years, my E is improved alot. Reading is the most important part for studying new language. The more u read, the better u get in E.

You guys know what, Vietnamese guys can't talk in English fluently and interested cause the first thing - English is not their mother language, second thing - They do not speak it as their major communication language (here we are in Vietnam so) infer vocabulary and grammars are easy to get lost, third thing - even they talk in English, somehow the people that they are talking to does not have enough knownledge to reply them, fourth thing - their teachers in school strictly do not allow them to talk, kind of Vietnamese abuse, fifth thing - English how ever is a hard language if we don't use it frequently, like me, radio and TV in English might help alot. Well, when I first came to US, English seems so hard. I do have English classes in Vietnam, even alot, but in here, I couldn't talk, I couldn't write right well like the other kids...hic hic, but when I came back from a activity picnic( a Lửa Trại at my church)...like 7 days ago, I spoke English all the times cause no Vietnamese there could talk Vietnamese :D, and now, English is better for me in a good way, I hope that would help me because next Monday is already my first day of school. :D

I have a CD-player with radio function connected to my computer and I can listen to the radio while using a computer. The next one is reading. Reading brings to lots of new words and grammars, ebook is one of them, but I still can't get the whole main point of a book cause it's like...doesn't have much sense to me. Maybe, my vocabulary is bad...:( I will get over somehow :D. Watching TV: some kind of Everyday Conversation may help alot, like One Tree Hill, Everwood, 7th Heaven...Most important things is talking, you may find somefriend that would help you with this, but talk as normal then you just equal to those kids in school. They talk, you hear it, you know it is great, but it just very easy, you want to be greater - Do reading. :D Have a nice day ^__<

Đó là hiện nay khách du lịch quốc tế đến VN rất nhiều, các bạn có thể gặp họ rất nhiều, nhưng các bạn biết không họ rất lúng túng tại TP chúng ta, mình nghĩ các ban có thể bắt chuyện và giúp đỡ họ. Clean up your mind before judging anything soi soi. That's my writing. I'm not as stupid as many people who copies from others' valuable art to mirror their reputation! I didn't have a good opportunity to study basic E in my young age. I also agree that my english writing is also bad even worse than beginners who has been catching up english for 1 year.
Return to study english, most of vnese people affirm "it's hard for us who have ages, 30-40, to accept a new language than young ones, 18-25". You know why? In my experience, I think some of our midde-age vnese people feel to be shy as playing around in class where almost students are younger or refuse to go back to school. They have an effect on vnese traditional culture. If you stay in Vn, change your position, take a look... how many 50-60 men/women in your class? Another main reason, "we often choose friends who own not much of difference in age". For example, it's hard to find a group of friends, approximately 7-8 ladies and gentlemen, which has one 40 guy and the rest are 18-22! On the other hand, middle-age people often have their own familes, they don't have time to hand out around, make groups....so how much can english is improved? English in books is always a school-english. None of books will teach us a street-language. That's also meant to us "GOOD at SCHOOL might not guarantee GOOD at STREET and vice-versa"

Do you know Skype? , go to www.skype.com and download it. It's a very good applications to chat by voice online. The quality of sound is excellent. Why don't we improve our speaking skills using Skype.
