Hi everybody,

I am a CS student in Memphis, TN, USA. I'm taking a course called Operating System. The course is generally about the OS concepts and principles. This course seems very tough to me. I've got some assignment questions that I have been unable to answer. Could anyone help answering the following questions for me please?

1. On early computers, every byte of data read or written was directly handled by the CPU (i.e., there was no DMA – Direct Memory Access). What implications does this organization have for multiprogramming?

2. Suppose that you were to design an advanced computer architecture that did process switching in hardware, instead of having interrupts. What information would the CPU need? Describe how the hardware process switching might work.

You can either post the answer in this forum or email me at vietguy20022002@yahoo.com asap. I really appreciate it.
